Poetry is speech; its good is good, and its bad is bad. Therefore, there is no impediment to romantic poetry if it is not lewd or specific to a woman who entices to lewdness. Otherwise, it is not permissible for a Muslim to recite or listen to it. It is permissible for preserving the language and for quoting as evidence. The Qur'an and contain what indicates the dispraise of a certain type of poetry.
