What should a married man do when he discovers, one year and eight months into his marriage, that his wife was not a virgin before marriage, and that she had a previous sexual relationship with another person, in addition to her continuous lying to him, her inconsistency in prayer, and her dishonesty? Should he remain married for the sake of his daughter, or divorce her, knowing that her family prevents him from communicating with her?

The girl must repent to Allah for engaging in a forbidden relationship that led her to commit indecency. And you erred by asking about her past, as she should have concealed herself. However, if you stipulated her virginity and she concealed that from you, then it is deception. Nevertheless, it is not permissible for her to inform you of the fornication.

If she repents and becomes righteous, then keep her and treat her well. If she does not repent, then you should divorce her, because separating from an unchaste woman is recommended. It is permissible for you to refuse to divorce her until she forfeits her Mahr (bridal money) or part of it to you.

What you did—hitting and cursing—is a reprehensible act, and you must repent from it and mend your relationship with her family.
