What are the scholarly opinions regarding the ruling on offering sacrifices to other than Allah, and what is the view of the four madhhabs on this issue?

Offering a sacrifice to other than Allah Almighty is an act of polytheism (shirk), whether it be an animal to be slaughtered, sweets, or food. The word of monotheism (Tawhid) necessitates that no act of worship (qurbah) be directed to other than Allah Almighty. Allah Almighty says: (Say, "Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. No partner has He. And this I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims.") The scholars have agreed upon the obligation of directing worship solely to Allah, and that whoever directs it to other than Him has committed shirk.
