Is every slaughter not intended for the sake of Allah considered shirk (polytheism)?

Slaughtering for Allah is an act of ritual worship and devotion. Directing it to other than Allah is major polytheism (shirk akbar) that expels its doer from the faith and makes his slaughtered animal unlawful. As for slaughtering for other than Allah, such as in honor of a guest or for a feast and the like, it is permissible and even encouraged, provided that no name other than Allah’s is mentioned over it. The difference between the two is that slaughtering for other than Allah as an act of drawing near is not intended for consumption, but rather for venerating the one for whom it is slaughtered. Everything slaughtered for other than Allah or over which a name other than Allah’s has been mentioned is unlawful to eat, just like carrion.
