The question

How do I intend to make up for the missed Ramadan days from the years 1998, 1999, and 2000, and for the votive fast (siyam al-nadhr)? Should I intend for each year and votive fast separately, or can I intend to fast all the days with a single intention? What must be given out after making up for the Ramadan days, and what is the ruling on delaying its disbursement?

The answer

One must make up for missed Ramadan fasts, as Allah Almighty says: "And whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days." It is not a condition to make up the fasts immediately or consecutively, unless time becomes short for the entry of the next Ramadan.

Whoever delays making up the fasts without a valid excuse until the next Ramadan begins has sinned and must make up the fasts along with an expiation of feeding one poor person for each day, which is a debt upon them.

It is necessary to make a separate intention for making up a vow and an intention for making up a fast.
