Is the use of "menthol" permissible in Islamic law, knowing that it is an alcohol compound due to the presence of a hydroxyl bond (OH-) in its composition, for the purpose of utilizing it in treating breathing difficulties?

Menthol is a substance extracted from mint, used in the manufacture of some medicines. Its containing a "hydroxyl" - OH - bond does not render it forbidden or an intoxicant. Chemistry specialists have confirmed that this substance is not intoxicating. The basic principle concerning all beverages is that they are permissible unless they are intoxicating or harmful.

The presence of alcohol in a beverage does not make it forbidden unless it reaches the level of intoxication. The Islamic Fiqh Council has permitted the use of medicines containing alcohol in consumed proportions required by the pharmaceutical industry.
