What does al-qitmir mean linguistically?

Al-Qurtubi mentioned that the majority of exegetes are of the opinion that the qitmir is the thin membrane between the date fruit and its stone. However, he also quoted Al-Mubarrad, Ibn Abbas, and Qatadah as saying that it is the groove of the date stone. It is also stated in Lisan al-Arab and Al-Sihah that it is the thin pellicle in the date stone or the white speck on the back of the date stone from which the palm tree sprouts.
