I would like to know the story of the People of the Sabbath. May Allah reward you.
Allah mentioned the story of the People of the Sabbath in Surat Al-A'raf. They were a group from the Children of Israel in a coastal village whom Allah tested by forbidding them from hunting whales on the Sabbath. The whales would appear in abundance on the Sabbath and disappear on the other days.
The people divided into three groups: 1. A group that transgressed and hunted whales on the Sabbath by trickery. 2. A group that did not transgress and forbade the transgressors. 3. A group that did not transgress but also did not forbid the transgressors, and said to those who were forbidding: "Why do you preach to a people whom Allah is about to destroy or punish with a severe torment?" Those who were forbidding replied: "As an excuse before your Lord and perhaps they may fear Him."
When the transgressors persisted in their disobedience, Allah saved the group that forbade them, and punished the transgressors by transforming them into despised apes. They remained in that state for three days and then died.
