What animals is zakat obligatory on?

Zakat is obligatory on livestock, which includes camels, cattle (including buffalo), and sheep (both lamb and goats), provided they reach the minimum taxable amount (nisab) and are pasturing. As for other animals, Zakat is not obligatory on them unless they are prepared for trade, in which case they are subject to trade Zakat. If livestock are fed but are intended for trade, they are subject to trade Zakat by valuing them at the end of the year and paying one-quarter of one-tenth (2.5%) of their value.
