Is it permissible for a wife to leave her husband because of his family's exploitation of him and their interference in their marital and financial lives in a way that affects their ability to cope, in addition to repeated insults from his family and their assault on her?

Such actions should not originate from a Muslim towards his Muslim brother, especially when there is a bond of kinship through marriage. They must fear Allah and cease these shameful acts that contravene religion and good manners.

The Quran and Sunnah have forbidden harming, oppressing, and demeaning a Muslim. Allah Almighty said: (And those who harm believing men and believing women for [something] other than what they have earned have certainly borne slander and a manifest sin) [Quran 33:58]. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim. He does not oppress him, nor does he abandon him, nor does he fail him, nor does he demean him," and "Insulting a Muslim is a transgression, and fighting him is disbelief."

What the husband's family did, in terms of insults and beatings, is an assault and injustice contrary to Islamic law. They must repent and seek forgiveness. The husband must stand by what is right and be just to his wife, as his silence will affect his standing.

We advise the wife to be patient and seek reward from Allah in order to preserve her home and children. If the husband's family persists in their behavior, it is better to avoid visiting them to prevent conflict. The wife must convince her husband to refuse the divorce request, and he should not obey his mother in this regard.
