Abortion is forbidden, even if the fetus is in the nutfah (first stage). The sin becomes greater if it is performed after the ensoulment. However, if the pregnancy is still in its early stage, and your child needs care, and you are exhausted, then there is no harm in adopting the lenient opinion of those who permit abortion before forty days, provided both parents agree and there is a need for it. This is because taking a concession is permissible when there is a need, to avoid hardship. It must be noted that fear of poverty does not justify abortion.
