What should I do, as I forced my daughter to marry someone she did not desire, and she is now asking for a divorce from her righteous husband?
We advise you to explain to your daughter the harms of divorce, and that a righteous husband is a great blessing that deserves gratitude. Part of showing gratitude is to live with her husband in kindness and to be a good companion to him. We also advise you to explain that achieving affection between spouses requires patience, overlooking mistakes, and focusing on the good aspects of the other party's character, and that the emotion of love is not a prerequisite for a stable marital life. There is no harm in involving relatives or righteous people to speak to her about this matter. If that does not help and she remains insistent on leaving her husband, then she may seek Khul' from him in exchange for compensation. We also caution that forcing a woman to marry someone she does not desire is impermissible.
