Did Al-Harith ibn Kaladah meet the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace? And is there more than one person with this name? And how do we respond to those who claimed that the Prophet learned medicine from him?

The answer

Al-Harith ibn Kaladah, the physician of the Arabs, scholars differed in their opinions regarding his conversion to Islam. Some said that he embraced Islam and died during the caliphate of Umar, while others, such as Ibn al-Athir and Ibn Abi Hatim, stated that his conversion to Islam was not confirmed.

The hadith in which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, directed Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas to go to him is weak.

It has not been proven that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, learned medicine from him. This is false because his conversion to Islam and the Prophet's meeting with him have not been established, and because the Prophet did not learn medicine from anyone among people, nor did his companions transmit it from him.

Ibn al-Qayyim clarified that Prophetic medicine is a revelation from Allah, surpassing the medicine of physicians which is based on analogy, experimentation, and inspirations.
