Is it permissible for a mother to gift her son a car and favor him with this gift over his able-bodied siblings, knowing that the son is of moderate means and has installments to pay, and his mother wishes to help him due to her closeness to him and his use of the car for his own benefit and the benefit of his family?

Scholars have differed on the ruling concerning favoring some children in giving gifts. Some have held that it is impermissible, citing the hadith: "Indeed, I do not bear witness to injustice." However, the majority are of the opinion that equalization is preferable, and that favoring is valid though disliked.

The mother in this regard is like the father. However, it is permissible to make an exception for a valid reason, such as need, disability, or knowledge. And if the rest of the children consent, there is no impediment to favoring.

The mother can lend the car to her son in need without transferring ownership to him.
