The answer

It is not permissible for the lender to accept a gift from the borrower before the repayment of the loan, unless there was a pre-existing custom between them. In the event that the gift is accepted out of embarrassment, the lender may consider it part of the debt, or reward the borrower with an equivalent amount or more. It is permissible for the borrower to give a gift to the lender if the motive for the gift is something other than the loan.
