The question

Why do most people not surrender (to Islam) despite their knowledge that everything in the universe is mentioned in the Quran, and why do they not consider their fate on the Day of Judgment, and instead fight the religion of Islam? And does the punishment of the ignorant disbeliever differ from others, and is the turning away of people from religion and preferring worldly life among the signs of the Hour?

The answer

The disbelief of many Jews and other infidels is attributed to their preoccupation with worldly life and their turning away from the Hereafter. Allah Almighty has clarified that He does not guide those who do not believe in His signs. He has sealed their hearts, hearing, and sight, so they are heedless and lost. They also detest the mention of death because they do not wish to prepare for it, and their sole concern is the acquisition of desires. This turning away from obedience to Allah is a sign of the approaching Hour. The torment of disbelievers in the grave, in this world, and in the Hereafter varies according to the degree of their disbelief. The torment of the leaders of disbelief, its propagators, and its heretics is doubled, while the ruling for the ignorant and the imitators differs. Disbelief is intensified in three ways: by the disbelief in their creed, by stubbornness and going astray knowingly, and by striving to extinguish the light of Allah and turn people away from His religion.
