The answer

If the mother has saved and invested her money in an Islamic bank that adheres to Sharia principles, there is no harm in that, and she may benefit from its profits. However, if she is saving her money in an interest-based (riba) bank, this is not permissible for her, and she should be advised to abandon usury due to its severity. She should fear Allah and seek lawful sustenance, and she should look for Islamic banks to invest her money with them, because what is lawful, even if little, is better than what is unlawful, even if abundant. This is based on the Almighty's saying: "Say, 'Not equal are the evil and the good, although the abundance of evil might impress you.' So fear Allah, O you who possess understanding, that you may succeed" (Al-Ma'idah: 100). And based on the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "Indeed, Allah is pure and accepts nothing but what is pure… Then he mentioned a man who prolongs his journey, disheveled and dusty, extending his hands to the sky, 'O Lord, O Lord,' while his food is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, his clothing is unlawful, and he is nourished by the unlawful, so how can he be answered?" Narrated by Muslim.
