What proportion of all the authentic hadiths of the Sunnah is found in the Six Books, and which other books contain the rest?
It is difficult to determine the proportion of authentic hadiths (prophetic traditions) found in the Six Books compared to all authentic hadiths. Scholars have mentioned that the amount of authentic hadiths missed by the Six Books is small and can be found in other books such as Ibn Khuzaymah, Ibn Hibban, Al-Hakim, and Sunan al-Daraqutni and al-Bayhaqi. Imam al-Nawawi stated that Al-Sahihayn (Bukhari and Muslim), Sunan Abi Dawud, Al-Tirmidhi, and Al-Nasa'i missed only a small number of authentic hadiths. The total number of hadiths in Bukhari, including repetitions, is 7275, and without repetitions, it is 4000. For Muslim, it is approximately 4000 without repetitions. Any additional authentic hadiths can be found in reliable Sunan collections such as Abi Dawud, Al-Tirmidhi, Al-Nasa'i, Ibn Khuzaymah, Al-Daraqutni, Al-Hakim, and Al-Bayhaqi, provided their authenticity is explicitly stated.
