How is lying between spouses permissible in cases where it is allowed, and what is an example of that?

Permissible lying between spouses is that which benefits them and increases affection and love, and it is not permissible if it involves the loss of a right for either of them. An example of permissible lying is when a man tells his wife "I love you" while not truly meaning it. The evidence for this is what was narrated from Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Yes, let one of you lie and beautify [her words], for not all homes are built on love, but rather on kinship and Islam."
