Is it permissible for a Muslim woman to wear traditional attire consisting of an embroidered hijab and a long, wide skirt, knowing that some non-mahram relatives might see it, and given her desire to wear Islamic dress to avoid family problems?

A woman is commanded to conceal her adornment from non-mahram men, based on the Almighty’s saying: (And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests).

It is stipulated that the garment itself should not be an adornment, that it should be loose and flowing, covering the entire body, and thick and not transparent. It is obligatory to advise family and husband on the necessity of adhering to what Allah has legislated and to remain steadfast, as "there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator."
