Is it permissible to use perfumes containing alcohol, based on the principle that all things are pure unless proven otherwise, and is wine considered physically impure?

Allamah Al-Uthaymin chose the view that alcohol is pure, and a group of scholars, such as Al-Shawkani, Al-San'ani, Layth ibn Sa'd, and Al-Muzani, agreed with him. However, the statement of a scholar is not a proof against others, and in case of disagreement, one must refer to the Qur'an and Sunnah. Many scholars have chosen the view that alcohol is impure, such as the four Imams, and this is the madhhab of the Zahiris. They discussed the evidence of those who held the view of purity. Sheikh Al-Uthaymin indicated that it is better to avoid using perfumes containing alcohol as long as there is no need to use them, in order to avoid scholarly disagreement.
