What is the ruling on depriving a son who attends to his school duties of his allowance as a punishment?

The obligatory maintenance for children, incumbent upon the father, is estimated based on need and sufficiency, in accordance with what is customary. This includes food, drink, clothing, and educational expenses. It is not permissible for the father to deprive his child of the religiously obligatory allowance, even if the child makes mistakes in his studies. However, if the allowance exceeds the obligatory maintenance, the father may withhold it if doing so is for the purpose of reforming his child.
