Is it obligatory for a sane, mature person aged 15 to maintain kinship ties, knowing that their relatives reside in another country? Is maintaining kinship ties obligatory upon reaching the age of taklif or upon marriage? Is it obligatory to maintain ties with paternal uncles or only with women? What is the maximum period that should not pass without maintaining ties with them? Is visiting them annually sufficient?

The Shari'ah commanded the joining of kin (Silat al-Rahim) and forbade severing ties, and this command applies to both married and unmarried individuals. Therefore, it is obligatory to maintain ties with maternal uncles and aunts, and paternal uncles and aunts. This connection can be achieved through visits, calls, correspondence, greetings, and anything else that custom considers a form of connection. There are various degrees of connection, the lowest of which is abandoning estrangement and maintaining ties through speech. The degree of connection varies according to ability and need. One who maintains some ties but does not achieve their full extent is not considered a severer, and one who falls short of what they are capable of is not considered a maintainer.
