Is maintaining kinship ties obligatory for someone sixteen years of age who dislikes leaving the house, and is he sinful for not going out with his family or sitting with them, and what is his ruling if he dies in this state?

Since the questioner has reached the age of accountability (تكليف), it is obligatory for him to maintain ties of kinship, and it is impermissible for him to sever them. Maintaining these ties is obligatory, and severing them is forbidden and one of the major prohibitions. The Shari'ah has not specified particular methods or a fixed amount for maintaining kinship ties; rather, the prevailing custom ( عرف) is the reference point. This can be achieved through visits, calls, correspondence, and greetings. It is not permissible to neglect kinship ties out of a desire to stay home or use the internet. A Muslim must strive against his own self and oppose his desires. These visits are beneficial in building a well-balanced personality and addressing negative aspects. Furthermore, maintaining kinship ties is a cause for blessing in one's lifespan and sustenance, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever wishes that his provision be expanded for him or his lifespan be extended, let him maintain ties of kinship."
