Is a wife's service to her husband, such as making tea or bringing a glass of water, obligatory upon her, or is its ruling similar to household chores, which are subject to custom? And does a wife's disobedience to her husband in these matters render her prayers unacceptable, and is it permissible for her to stipulate in the marriage contract that she will not perform these services?

Jurists differ on the obligation of a wife to serve her husband, and the preponderant opinion is the obligation of service in a reasonable manner, according to Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibn al-Qayyim, and Ibn Uthaymeen. Unrestricted contracts are interpreted according to custom. As for a wife's conditions in the marriage contract, they are permissible as long as they do not forbid what is lawful or permit what is unlawful, and Muslims are bound by their conditions. The threats mentioned in the Hadith for a wife who disobeys her husband are specific to refusing marital intimacy, not every disagreement, and they are conditional upon the husband's anger.
