What are a wife's duties toward her husband's family?

Scholars have differed regarding the wife's obligation to serve her husband. What is deemed authoritative by us is that it is obligatory, as is customary. The reference point for matters of service is custom. Thus, the customary service from someone like her to someone like him is obligatory, and it varies according to the circumstances. As for the rights of the husband's family upon the wife, if there is no kinship or neighborly relationship between them, then they have the general rights of Muslims. The wife is not obligated to serve her husband's family unless she volunteers to do so, which is considered good companionship and noble character. The foundation of the marital relationship is mutual affection, compassion, and understanding.
