How is it permissible to bury two people in one grave out of necessity, and should a niche (luḥd) be made for each of them, or for only one, or on the sides of the grave?

It is permissible to bury two people in one grave out of necessity, and the burial should be in one niche (lahd), with the more virtuous of the two placed closer to the Qibla. A barrier of earth should be placed between them so that each one is as if in a separate grave, while some scholars are of the opinion that the shroud is sufficient as a barrier.
