How can one whiten the record of deeds and fill it with good deeds after having been neglectful and distant from Allah, and committing major sins, and erase all sins from it, so that a Muslim may come on the Day of Judgment with a white record?

You must repent to Allah with sincere repentance that encompasses all sins. If you repent with true sincerity, your sins will be erased, and your record will become pure and clean, for "the one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin," as reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Sincere and accepted repentance, with its conditions, is how Allah erases sins from the records of deeds. After repentance, adhere to the Sharia (definition), perform the obligatory duties, increase in supererogatory acts, and avoid prohibitions. Whenever a bad deed emanates from you, rectify it with repentance, and increase in good deeds, because "indeed, good deeds do away with ill deeds." Strive in supplication that Allah accepts your repentance and helps you with it.
