Was the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, a light or a human, and is it true that he had no shadow, even in the light?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is a human being from among the children of Adam, possessing all the attributes of human beings. The Holy Quran has affirmed his humanity in the Almighty's saying: (Say, "I am only a human being like yourselves; it is revealed to me that your God is but one God"). What distinguishes him is prophecy, messengership, and revelation. It is not permissible to describe him as light, or as having no shadow, or as being created from light, as this is an exaggeration forbidden by his saying, peace and blessings be upon him: (Do not exaggerate in praising me as the Christians exaggerated in praising Isa son of Maryam; rather, say: 'Allah's servant and His Messenger'). It has been established that angels are created from light, while Adam and his descendants were created from what was described to them. The saying that the Prophet has no shadow or that he was created from light is a false statement and contradicts the texts of the Quran and Sunnah. The circulating hadith that "The first thing Allah created was the light of your Prophet, O Jabir" is a fabricated hadith.
