The answer

Deliberately breaking the fast in without a valid excuse is a grave sin that necessitates abundant seeking of forgiveness and repentance.

- If the breaking of the fast was without intercourse: You must make up the days you missed. - If the breaking of the fast was intentionally with intercourse: You must make up the days along with expiation. - If you do not remember the exact number of days you missed after reaching puberty: You should err on the side of caution with the number until you are reasonably certain that your obligation has been fulfilled, acting upon the : "Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt."

In addition to this, you are obligated to pay expiation for delaying the making up of the fast for the number of days that must be made up. This can be paid in one lump sum (approximately 750 grams of food for each day to the poor and needy). Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays with the intention of combining making up the fast with voluntary fasting is not sufficient. However, if the breaking of the fast occurred before puberty, you are not required to make it up.
