Would a husband be sinful if he remains with his wife who practices sorcery, and what is the ruling of Sharia on that?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Practicing sorcery is one of the gravest major sins. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, enumerated it among the seven destructive sins. Sorcery can be an act of disbelief (kufr), or it can be a major sin without being disbelief.

The wife who practices sorcery must be advised and warned about Allah's punishment, because the husband is responsible for her, and because "religion is advice." It is permissible to involve righteous people and to utilize da'wah materials.

If she repents with sincere repentance, that is good. But if she insists on disobedience, then it is recommended to separate from her because she is a wicked woman. Divorce becomes recommended when a wife neglects her obligatory duties towards Allah.
