What is the ruling on ridiculing committed Muslims and preachers, and how should one deal with those who ridicule, and do they feel inadequate?

The ruling on ridiculing committed Muslims, callers to Islam, and students of sacred knowledge has been clarified in previous fatwas. Those who ridicule should be dealt with through wisdom and good admonition, by clarifying the truth to them, and by warning them of the gravity of such actions, as it may amount to disbelief (kufr). If this does not prove beneficial, then one must turn away from them, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: "And turn away from the ignorant" (Quran 7:199) and "And when they pass by ill speech, they pass by with dignity" (Quran 25:72). The reason for their ridicule may be their feeling of inadequacy and their unwillingness to change their behavior.
