What is the ruling on men shaving their chest hair?
Hair is of three types:
1. Hair that the Shariah commands to leave, such as the beard and eyebrow hair. It is not permissible to take anything from it.
2. Hair that the Shariah commands to take or remove, such as the hair of the armpits, pubic area, and a man's mustache.
3. Hair that the Shariah is silent about, which is permissible and excused, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "The lawful is what Allah has made lawful in His Book, and the unlawful is what Allah has made unlawful in His Book, and what He has been silent about is what He has excused." This includes hair on the nose, chest, legs, and forearms. Shaving body hair for men is permissible according to the Malikis.
