The obligatory maintenance for the wife is what is sufficient according to custom, taking into account the circumstances of both spouses. If hiring two maids and a driver falls within the scope of recognized needs, then the husband is obligated to pay their wages if he is well-off. A woman riding alone with a driver constitutes khalwah (unlawful seclusion). A wife assisting her husband in spending is considered an act of obedience.
