Is a working wife obligated to bear household expenses at her husband's request, and is he entitled to her salary, and if she must contribute, what is the percentage?

The issue of household expenses between working spouses differs based on the agreed-upon conditions:

1. If there was a prior condition between the spouses to share expenses, then it is obligatory to fulfill it; for the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Muslims are bound by their conditions, except a condition that makes lawful what is unlawful, or makes unlawful what is lawful," and "The conditions most deserving of fulfillment are those by which you make intimacy lawful."

2. If there was no prior condition, then all expenses are on the husband; for Allah Almighty says: {Let a man of wealth spend from his wealth}, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "And upon you is their provision and their clothing, according to what is reasonable." The wife's salary is her right in return for her work, unless she willingly relinquishes some of it; for Allah Almighty says: {But if they give up willingly to you anything of it, then consume it with pleasure and ease.}

It is advised for the wife to willingly contribute a portion of her salary to her husband to resolve disputes and achieve tranquility between them, or for the husband to be content with what Allah has allotted him and spend according to his capacity, overlooking his wife's salary. In case no agreement is reached, recourse can be sought from the Sharia court.
