If the killing was intentional, the killer is liable for a severe blood money (diyya mughalladha) payable from his own wealth, and he does not inherit anything from the blood money nor from the wealth of the deceased. He is to be flogged one hundred lashes and imprisoned for one year. He is also required to offer expiation (kaffarah) by freeing a slave; if he cannot find one, then by fasting for two consecutive months. Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on a father who intentionally kills his son, and the preponderant opinion is that a father is not to be killed for (intentionally killing) his child.
