What is the ruling on using the prayer beads (tasbih) counter ring that is currently widespread?

The Sunnah is to count tasbeeh (glorification of Allah) and tahleel (declaration of Allah's oneness) on the fingers, based on the hadeeth of Yaseerah, whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded to count on her fingers, for indeed they (the fingers) will be questioned and made to speak. There is no harm in glorifying Allah by any permissible means, such as the prayer beads (subhah) or a digital counter ring, because means take the rulings of their ends. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah regarded counting tasbeeh with date pits and pebbles as good, and he did not dislike counting tasbeeh with beads if the intention was good. However, taking it (the subhah) without need or displaying it to people is either showing off (riya’) or a strong likelihood of it.
