What is the ruling on using a misbaha (prayer beads) for tasbih (remembrance of Allah)?

Tasbeeh using the hand is better, due to the Prophet’s — peace and blessings be upon him — action and command. The fingertips will bear witness for their owner on the Day of Judgment. It has been established that tasbeeh with date-pits and pebbles is permissible, and the Prophet — peace and blessings be upon him — approved some of the Mothers of the Believers for doing so. Some scholars have equated the prayer beads (misbaha) with date-pits and pebbles due to there being no difference, so it is permissible to use them for whoever needs them. The saying of Ibn Mas'ud does not contradict the authentic hadiths transmitted from the Prophet — peace and blessings be upon him.
