What is the obligatory amount of zakat on olive oil, if the payment for harvesting the olives is half the yield, and the other half belongs to the farm owner?

The preponderant opinion is that Zakat is obligatory on olives because they are a storable staple food. If a worker harvests the fruits under a musaqat agreement (managing the trees for half the produce), then Zakat is incumbent upon both the worker and the farm owner, provided that each of their shares reaches the nisab.

However, if the worker is hired to harvest olives for half of their produce, then Zakat in this case is due from the farm owner, and the worker's share, which is considered wages, is not subject to Zakat.

The nisab for olive Zakat is five wasqs. Its Zakat is obligatory at one-tenth if it is irrigated with effort, and one-half of one-tenth if it is irrigated without effort. It is permissible to pay its Zakat in the form of olives or oil.
