A husband's statement to his wife, "You are divorced," constitutes an unequivocal and immediate divorce. If he had previously divorced her, then he has now issued two divorces against her. As long as he has not completed three divorces, he may reconcile with her before the expiration of her waiting period (iddah). The validity of reconciliation does not require the wife's consent or knowledge.
