Is the husband's going out with his friends one day a week after work considered a dereliction of his duty towards his wife and an infringement upon her rights, given their differing viewpoints regarding the rights of friends?
Among the wife's rights upon the husband is companionship with kindness, and this includes clothing, sustenance, housing, and good treatment, as Allah Almighty says: {And live with them in kindness}. Among them: that he be patient with her harm and bear her mistakes, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "No believing man should hate a believing woman; if he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another." Among them: that he mention her with good and praise her, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The best of you is the best to his family, and I am the best of you to my family." As for him not going out with his friends except with her permission, this is not a right of the wife. It is incumbent upon both spouses to be patient, overlook faults, and endure each other for the continuation of life, as Allah Almighty says: {And do not forget graciousness between you}.
