How is the Zakat calculated for 200 grams of 21-carat gold, and is it calculated based on its original weight or its monetary value after sale?

Gold of 21-karat is not pure, and zakat is obligatory only on the pure gold if it reaches 85 grams.

To determine the pure amount in 21-karat gold, multiply the number of grams by the karat (21) and divide by 24. So, if the weight of the gold is 200 grams of 21-karat, the pure amount is 175 grams.

- If the gold is for adornment, there is no zakat on it according to the majority of scholars. - If the gold is for hoarding or trade, zakat is obligatory on it, and its amount is 2.5% (a quarter of a tenth). For 175 grams of gold, the amount of zakat is 4.38 grams, and the zakat is to be given from the gold itself or its value. If the gold is sold, zakat becomes obligatory on its cash price after a full year (hawl) has passed, provided it reaches the nisab.
