How can a committed Muslim woman whose faith has deteriorated and whose acts of worship have weakened return to her previous state of closeness to Allah, and overcome the negative thoughts and life pressures that have affected her and made her dislike those around her?
Among the causes of failure and slipping are the neglect of duties, whether they are apparent or hidden acts of worship. This shortcoming can lead to sins or deter from acts of obedience. Furthermore, abandoning duties can be a cause of falling into forbidden acts, just as it happened to the Christians when they abandoned some of what they were commanded, so enmity and hatred were stirred up among them. Therefore, one must review their performance of God's commands.
Among the things that one must be wary of are minor sins, for they accumulate and destroy their perpetrator. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Beware of minor sins, for they gather upon a man until they destroy him."
Likewise, one must be wary of excessive engagement in permissible things and being engrossed in the adornments of this worldly life, for this can lead to hardness and corruption of the heart. For the disliked (makruh) is a barrier between the servant and the forbidden (haram), and the permissible (mubah) is a barrier between him and the disliked.
