Is it permissible for me to begin my fast on the fourth day of Ramadan?
Fasting is obligatory upon every sane, adult, resident, able Muslim. Breaking the fast during it without a valid excuse is forbidden. If delaying the fast until the fourth day was without an excuse, then it is a forbidden act that should not be committed; rather, it is among the grave sins. However, if it was due to an excuse, such as illness or travel, then there is no harm in it, and fasting becomes obligatory immediately upon the cessation of the excuse, along with making up the days missed, as Allah Almighty says: (So whoever among you sights the New Moon, he must observe Saum (fasts) that month, and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number of other days).
