Is a wife obligated to inform her husband of her infidelity to him—which did not reach the extent of zina (fornication/adultery)—despite her fear of his reaction, and is it possible for AIDS to be transmitted to her and to her husband in this manner, even though doctors affirm it cannot be transmitted?
The obligatory act is sincere repentance, which involves abandoning the sin, regretting it, and resolving not to return to it. It is also obligatory to conceal one's self and not inform the husband or anyone else about it, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever commits any of these abominations, let him conceal himself with the concealment of Allah."
As for the fear of AIDS, there is no justification for it as long as the female doctors have ruled out the possibility of infection. True repentance erases sin, and the one who repents is like one who has no sin.
It is necessary to adhere to the limits of and to stay away from temptations and suspicious situations, especially the prohibition of private seclusion () and speaking with a non- man except out of necessity and within the bounds of modesty. The woman is commanded to observe and lower her gaze.
