Is delayed childbirth a punishment from God because of thoughts of aborting the fetus after three months of pregnancy, even with repentance and seeking forgiveness?
Abortion is forbidden (haram), but Allah has forgiven the Ummah of Muhammad for what they merely thought about, so long as they did not act upon it. Repentance erases what a person intended to do, and Allah accepts the repentance of His servants. The wife's inability to conceive might be a natural occurrence. The questioner and his wife should await relief and increase their seeking of forgiveness (istighfar), in accordance with the Almighty's saying: "And said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever Forgiving. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [copious] showers and give you increase in wealth and children and make for you gardens and make for you rivers.'" Having a child is a blessing for which Allah should be thanked and rejoiced over, and a lack of gratitude exposes the blessing to removal.
