Is the girl with whom you were emotionally involved through an illicit relationship, and then you broke off your relationship with her and repented, considered to have been wronged by you, and do you bear the sin of her sadness and the pangs of conscience she feels, especially since you were not truthful in your feelings towards her, knowing that she has forgiven you for what happened?
The desire for marriage does not permit establishing a relationship before the marriage contract, and the girl has no right over you that should make your conscience reproach you concerning her; because both of you are partners in the sinful relationship by mutual consent. Your duty is sincere repentance to Allah and remorse for what has passed, for remorse is repentance. What you find within yourself of intrusive thoughts and self-reproach towards her is nothing but the instigation of your enemy, Satan, to rekindle the sinful relationship between you. Allah Almighty says: "O you who have believed, do not follow the footsteps of Satan. And whoever follows the footsteps of Satan - indeed, he enjoins immorality and wrongdoing. And if not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy, not one of you would have been pure ever, but Allah purifies whom He wills, and Allah is Hearing and Knowing." So hasten to repent, rectify your deeds, have a good opinion of your Lord, and resume your life as if nothing had happened, and work for what is good for your religion and your worldly life, and do not look back at the past with regret.
