What is the ruling on maintaining kinship ties with relatives who deal with sorcerers and soothsayers, knowing that we have already cut ties with them?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Dealing with sorcerers and soothsayers is among the gravest of forbidden acts. It has been established in the Sunnah that it is permissible to shun those who commit sins. In shunning, consideration should be given to what serves the greater good. If shunning leads to deterring them from engaging in forbidden acts, then shunning is appropriate. However, if maintaining a connection with them and inviting them [to the truth] with wisdom and good admonition leads to their repentance, then it is better not to shun them. If the outcome is equally balanced, then shunning them is preferable, because a Muslim is commanded to denounce evil according to their ability.
