Is fear and sorrow over death before repentance considered sufficient remorse for the validity of repentance?

Remorse is the greatest pillar of repentance, and repentance is not valid without it. It is achieved when the heart feels pain for a sin upon realizing the danger of sins and their dire consequences. Fear and sorrow over a sin are signs of remorse. Al-Ghazali explained that remorse results from knowledge that perceives the enormity of the harm caused by sins and that they are a veil between the servant and his Beloved. This awareness generates pain, which leads to remorse, and this remorse, in turn, generates a will and determination to abandon the sin and make up for what has passed. As for how to acquire remorse, given that it is a feeling (infa'al) and not an action (fi'l), what is meant is to be charged with its causes. These include contemplating that the pleasure of disobedience is like a sweet drink containing deadly poison, and contemplating Allah's wrath and punishment. Whoever reflects on these matters, these causes will lead him to remorse.
