Was the Prophet's (PBUH) prevention of Ali from marrying the daughter of Abu Jahl due to the prohibition of Ali marrying any woman while he was married to Fatima, or specifically because he chose the daughter of Abu Jahl? And how does the concept of "the shame of fathers extends to their offspring" reconcile with the Almighty’s saying: ((No bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another))? And what is the sin of Abu Jahl's Muslim daughter if the prohibition was because she was the daughter of an enemy of Allah?

The Prophet's prohibition - peace be upon him - of Ali marrying the daughter of Abu Jahl was not because she was the daughter of Abu Jahl, but rather due to Fatima's distress - may Allah be pleased with her - at him marrying another, and out of fear of trials for her due to jealousy. Some scholars mentioned that the Prophet - peace be upon him - stipulated to Ali that he should not marry another wife while married to Fatima, or that the prohibition was specific to the Prophet - peace be upon him - or to Fatima - may Allah be pleased with her. Ibn al-Qayyim held that the wisdom behind this was to prevent the daughter of the Messenger from being in the same place as the daughter of Allah's enemy.
